Today I’ve got a color mock-up for the cover to ElfSong #3.  I’m still tweaking the cover a little here and there, but it’s in pretty close to final shape.  I’d love to hear what everyone thinks of the latest cover!

The colored cover to ElfSong #2.  Linework by me (Mat Nastos) and colors by the incredibly talented Jerelyn Parker.  Jerelyn runs the very cool ElfQuest fansite, ElfQuestFanArt.com and is an amazing artist in her own right.  I was lucky enough to met Jerelyn on the EQ Fan Art boards and she graciously agreed to bring her skills over to work on the cover to ElfSong #2 for me.

Here for your viewing pleasure is the black and white linework for the cover to ElfSong #3, fresh off my drawing table. This one was a lot of fun to draw. For me, this was a great opportunity to get a fusion of the “Elf” style and the more action oriented, illustrative style of the old Savage Sword of Conan magazines. I just wish I was able to channel the amazing pen and brush work of Alfredo Alcala. Hopefully that’s something I’ll be able to work up to soon!

This was an image from when I started to work at Warp Graphics on ElfQuest: Blood of Ten Chiefs.  Barry Blair encouraged me to do a couple of potential poster images and this shot of Tyldak flying high was one of them.  Barry really encouraged me in those early days of my elf-drawing career.

As part of my warm-up to the release of the first issue of ElfSong to the world later this year, I’ve started working on a portfolio of images featuring the sexy and sultry ladies of ElfSong.  I’m calling it “FemElves: The Ladies of ElfSong.”  Here you’ll find a teaser sketch of the first piece.  I call it “Shade in the Sun.”

A quick 9×12 ink and marker Batman commission sketch done between teaching comic book art workshops at the Frank & Son Collectible Show in the City of Industry, CA.  Yes, I know it’s not an ElfSong sketch, but it’ll give you guys a look at some of my other art.

At last, here is the colored cover artwork for my 2010 Elf Sketchbook.  Line work by me, colors by Hal Hefner.  My 2010 Elf Sketchbook will contain elf-related pictures from ElfSong, my time at ElfQuest and my even earlier fascination with all things elven in nature.  It’s loaded with more than 80 images and is a must have for any fan of elf artwork.  The 2010 Elf Sketchbook will be available for order in early January 2010.  Make sure to check it out!

One of the very cool people I’ve met since running comic book art workshops at the Frank & Son Collectible Show (in the City of Industry, CA — http://www.frankandsonshow.net ) is Carl Anderson.  In addition to running the Panderson & Co booth, Carl is the creator of the ultra cool webcomic, Geeks the Comic Strip (http://www.geeksthecomicstrip.com).  Being a fan of his strip, I decided to put together an encounter with his characters and Dusk from ElfSong.  Hopefully I didn’t butcher his work too much!
